Space Cover 293: SRB Nosecap Ejection System Sled Tests Between March 2-10, 1978, a series of tests were run for the purpose of testing a solid rocket booster nosecap parachute system. These tests, held at the rocket sled facility at Sandia Labs in New Mexico, confirmed the nosecap would jettison and pull the parachutes out to slow the SRB. As we know this system worked flawlessly except for STS-4, which boosters sank after the parachutes malfunctioned. These covers were serviced by Stan Henderson of 3-Muscateers. About 100 to 150 covers were serviced for each test.
